FTM here... I'm over 39 weeks and 2 weeks ago was at 3 cm and 80%.
I have no contractions, BH, etc or any inkling that I'll be delivering anytime soon.
what are some natural ways to induce? Yes, I'm aware I'm not at 40 weeks and to let nature takes its course. It's a question and I'm trying to prepare as best as I can.

Re: Avoiding induction - bring your ideas!
My OB says, sex, sex, sex.
So if I were you I would just hump it out for the remainder of the pregnancy. If you haven't already, go see a chiropractor.
Hell, try all of the OWT (minus castor oil), just for fun. If it works it work, if not, then you tried . You're in the safe zone, so I would try them more so for fun. I did with DS, and nothing worked. I went to 41.5 before being induced.

Talk to your doctor about getting that scan to make sure everything is OK at 40 weeks and then relax and allow nature to do its thing. I really think getting anxious and impatient about it can slow things down. Those babies have a mind of their own and I swear they love to torture us.
Anyway, it's not uncommon for pregnancy to go up to 42 weeks, especially for FTMs, and if you want to avoid an induction the best thing to do is keep yourself healthy and hydrated and pregnant for as long as your baby needs to be in there.

I’m a modern man, a man for the millennium. Digital and smoke free. A diversified multi-cultural, post-modern deconstruction that is anatomically and ecologically incorrect. I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. I’m a hot-wired, heat seeking, warm-hearted cool customer, voice activated and bio-degradable. I interface with my database, my database is in cyberspace, so I’m interactive, I’m hyperactive and from time to time I’m radioactive.
Get it in!
What ever you do, do NOT try castor oil! Just walk walk walk, sex sex sex and even some nipple stimulation.
If your SO gives you any lip about sex you tell him "That's how this pregnancy started, that's how this pregnancy is going to end!" :-)
Sex, nipple stimulation and walking.
ETA: some doctors fear that nipple stimulation might overstimulate the uterus and potentially upset the baby so they suggest avoiding nipple stimulation in high risk pregnancies.
Sex, exercise, nipple stimulation she suggested best pump, red raspberry tea, there are some other herbal stuff as well, accupunture, massage, stretch and sweep etc. that's what I can remember... Personally I am doing massage, accupunture, taking the herbs and stretch and sweep. But really it's all for nothing if your body isn't ready...
I was about 2 days overdue with my youngest and this is what I did:
walked up and down several flights of stairs
did about 10 jumping jacks
My water broke the night I did those things.
Everyone always says sex but I would think people are doing that anyway. I had sex several times up to the very end and it didn't induce labor. However the jumping jacks and stairs seemed to do the trick (or it could have been time anyway!).
I am taking Evening Primrose Oil capsules. 500 mg, one by mouth, one (with a hole pricked in it) vaginally.
Make sure you ask your health care professional before trying any kind of herbal remedy, though. My midwife suggested the EPO and also red raspberry leaf tea, 3x a day.
Just FYI, these things do not INDUCE labor, but help to soften the cervix for ripening to help you efface.
The theory is that it irritates your bowel (which is near your uterus) and as such can cause your uterus to become irritated and contract. However, in many cases it just seems to cause chronic diarrhoea and dehydration.
Also, it tastes horrible and it can make you vomit. Vomiting and diarrhea at the same time=not a good time.
