Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Patience is a virtue

Just had another appt. with the gyno. following D&C which confirmed partial molar pregnancy.  He said this is usually monitored more closely than complete molar, which I thought was the opposite, but whatever.  He recommended to not TTC for one year so they can monitor the HCG.  I have mixed feelings about it, because it would be nice to have at least the option to TTC within the year, but at the same time, I feel a sense of relief that I can't go through this again for another year.  It's almost like I'm "off the hook".  Since I had no symptoms of m/c, I think the experience made me very paranoid that it will happen again without my knowing.  I feel a little guilty for being relieved, because hubby wants another baby so bad.  Then again, I am only 28, so what's another year, really?  We weren't really TTC this time, so even though this was a major disappointment, I don't feel it is urgent to try again so soon after this loss.  It doesn't make much of a difference.  Gyno. suggested birth control, which I never took before.  I was thinking it might be a good idea, because it's probably more reliable than other contraception methods.  Any thoughts?

BFP#1:   2/2/13 ~ exact m/c date unknown but around 3/20 at 10 weeks ~ diagnosed with PMP ~ D&C on 4/5 ~ TTA for at least 1 year due to PMP ~ cleared to TTC 1/14

BFP#2:   2/7/14 ~ m/c 2/20/14 ~ possibly due to chemical pregnancy ~ TG no D&C is needed

Surprise BFP#3:  4/4/14 ~ super duper extra happy (and nervous) about this one - EDD 12/9/14!!!

Re: Patience is a virtue

  • First, I am so sorry for your loss. Your feelings are completely understandable.

Birth control would be more effective then a lot of other contraceptives. Just make sure you do you research before picking. Pill, patch, depo shot, IUD. They all have pros and cons.

    I hopes I helped a little.

  • Definitely research the birth control you choose. DH and I were surprised with the twins while using the pill and alternative bc methods. We were supposed to be waiting 6 months to a year before trying again too. But oops, baby surprise only 2 months later! Sometimes I wonder if that is why we lost the twins. =/ A surprise would not be too good if your doctor is wanting you to go a year before TTC.

  • Thanks for your advice.  It has me considering using multiple forms of bc just to be safe.

  • I'm sorry for your loss...I was on the pill also when got pregnant and lost baby at 11wk5d...so it does happen but I was on tbat pill for 5 years. I don't know if that matters..what is a molar pregnancy?
  • Panther422516, molar pregnancy is when the fetus develops into abnormal tissue due to abnormal chromosomes. Partial is if the fetus develops at all and then deteriorates and complete is when you get symptoms of pregnancy but a fetus never develops.  The tissue has to be removed with D&C and then hcg levels have to be monitored closely to make sure that the abnormal tissue does not develop before TTC again.  Hope that makes sense.  It's not easy to explain lol
