Breast milk in sippy?

Yet another Q that I feel I should know already...

Now that Em is chugging from the sippy and not just taking tiny drops, I'd rather her chug milk than water. What are the rules on this? From frozen breast milk, do I thaw it and give it to her cold? Room temp? Warm, like she's having a bottle feeding just from a different source? And follow up Q... How long can the milk hang out in her sippy once thawed? If I fill a cup and take it to the park, can she sip on it for the 1 to 2 hrs that we'll be there? Ben was never interested in a sippy until we switched to cow's milk, so this is new territory for me. TIA!

Re: Breast milk in sippy?

  • This is the second time Ive heard a STM talk about putting milk in the sippy cup! I have a friend that is taking her 7 month off the bottle completely and letting her use the cup for milk. I had never heard of it before! I would think it would be harder to get off the cup than a bottle right? Obviously I have no idea so Im eager to see some responses. Rylan only uses the cup with a straw so Im not sure milk is an option for us.

Oh I am not at all replacing the boob with the cup! I'm talking about a drink for her to have at mealtimes, or in the stroller just to occupy her and keep her hydrated. We won't have to get her off the cup when I'm done nursing; I'll just start putting cow's milk in it instead.

My pedi actually suggested using BM/FF in our sippy when I asked about starting one.nbsp; If I remember right with the rules of BM you can keep it out at room temp for up to 6 hours.nbsp; If it were me and I noticed that she was uninterested in the sippy I would probably stick it in the fridge for it to last longer at about the 12 hour range.nbsp; In the fridge it can last up to 68 days I think.
these are the rules for fresh milk. For frozen milk it lasts 24 hours in the fridge once thawed and it can be at room temp for up to 4 hours.
