Exercise

Is anyone else scared to exercise? I'm really afraid of overdoing it and causing issues. I'm almost 8 weeks but my first real appt isn't until May 13. I was running every day until I broke my foot in October and since I've just done as much as my foot allows. What are the safest exercises to do from home or at a normal gym without a pool?

Re: Exercise

  • My husband is a physical therapist and has been religiously trying to get me into the gym since we found out we were expecting. He keeps reminding me that I will handle labor better if I am physically fit and I'm not so bad of right now. Maybe an extra 10lbs or so. Anyway.... I went last night for the first time since our news and was terrified the entire time!!! I'm 5 weeks along and all the doctors and healthcare professionals I've asked just tell me not to increase my core temperature. So, I used the elliptical for 45 min at a medium level, then walked briskly until I was just flat out exhausted. I will say, I feel 100x better today for having gotten up and moved around a bit

  • From what I've read and heard you can do mostly what you were doing before. Your heart rate will increase much quicker so it's important to scale back the insensity and not get overheated. I am still doing crossfit which includes Olympic weight lifting but have scaled the weight back a bit I won't be trying to set any personal records for now! I also take several breaks during my workout to catch my breath and drink plenty of water.
  • Thanks everyone. It's good to hear from other people who are still able to exercise. Maybe I'll give it a try this evening!
  • I'm freaked out too. But everyone's right; just keep things moderate and don't try anything new or more intense than usual.

I read somewhere that you can't shake your baby out, which is obvious, but I keep having to remind myself. That said, I still haven't gone for a run. I've been trying to walk a ton though.

I promise to never forget that this little dude deserves just as much love after the baby comes as he has now.

  • I am nervous too, but know it also has enormous benefits.

I unfortunately gained about 10 lbs and stopped running during our infertility struggle so now I know I can't do what I used to do. I have been walking about 2 1/2 miles a day and plan on doing prenatal yoga.

This. I'm doig CrossFit as well and have given up hope to break any records, weight or time, because of scaling back intensity and taking more water breaks and getting winded easier.

I have actually found that when I'm feeling icky and still make myself go to the gym, I feel less icky! Yay for that!
