If you started leaking fluid.....

please tell me your experience.  Did it start slowly and then increase.  How quickly did you start to feel it?  Did you soak through quickly or just start feeling alot more wetness (sorry TMI)  I am feeling lots of wetness but don't think it is discharge....and don't think it is pee.

Re: If you started leaking fluid.....

  • Don't let a bunch of Internet strangers calm your nerves on what could be a serious matter. Call your doctor and have them clear you.

  • Definitely get checked if you think you could be leaking fluid!!  If you are, you and your babies are at high risk of infection.

I woke up at 29w2d to a gush of fluid and really wet shorts.  I called and the on call OB told me to go to L&D to get checked.  I tested negative for amniotic fluid so they sent me on my way. They told me it was probably just urine.  For the next 3 days I continued feeling these gushes of fluid every time I stood or sat up, and I had to wear a pad.  At my regularly scheduled OB appt at 29w5d, my OB tested me for fluid. The test was negative again. 2 days later at 30w I went back to L&D to be tested a third time because I was still feeling leaking every time I got up. I finally tested positive. I was admitted to hospital bedrest that day, and I stayed there until I delivered.

  • Glad you have a call into the dr.  When I was 34w5d I woke up with fluid--called because I was worried it was amniotic.  They had me come in and get checked.  Good news was it was not amniotic fluid, bad news was it was cervical fluid and I was dilated to 6cm without having a single contraction.  My girls were born via c-section 2 1/2 hours later.

Keep us posted.  Hopefully it's nothing and your lil beans stay put for several more weeks.

  • Like OP get checked out. In my experience, both times my water broke it was a substantial amount. I would put on a new pad and it would instantly soak through. It even got all over the floor =. Hopefully it us just discharge.
  • if you are like me, it could be considered a "high leak" and may not test positive. I started leaking in my 36th week, but it didn't test as amniotic. I kept leaking - I knew it wasn't just discharge or pee - when I had my regularly scheduled apt at exactly 37 weeks 0 days, my OB SAW it coming out and sent me immediately to be induced that day. Babies were born big and healthy at 6lbs 2oz and 6 lbs 8 oz.
