Secondhand smoke

Hello ladies!

DH and I have been planning a 4 day weekend trip to Vegas in June and are now considering canceling due to all of the secondhand smoke I would be breathing in in the casinos. I like to gamble, so I will definitely be spending time in the casinos and unable to avoid the smoke.

How strict are/were you all about avoiding smokers while pregnant? I plan on asking my doctor at my first appointment what she thinks as well.

Re: Secondhand smoke

  • I try and stay away from it as much as possible. My mom smokes, but I tell her to stay way from me and my DS when she does, but even then it's hard to completely avoid it. I have never been to a casino, so not sure how bad it actually is.

  • OMG woman...go on the trip!!!! Those big casinos are very well ventilated. If you are worried just stay away from those casinos behind a supermarket that are like a 10 by 10 room.

  • I don't think casinos are that bad. They deliberately pump a ton of oxygen through the vents to keep people awake and to keep the smell of smoke at a minimum. If it were me I'd go and just avoid standing next to someone at a table or slot machine whose

  • With my first being around any smoke made me want to vomit! Have a good time but have a back plan of activities if you find the smoke is too much to handle.
  • Thanks ladies. We went last year and stayed at the Excalibur and the smell of smoke almost knocked me out, it was gross.

We are looking at the Bellagio, Ceasars, or New York New York, which are all nicer, cleaner casinos.

  • I hate cig smoke, can't stand being around it at all.

That being said, went to Vegas a few years ago and had no issues in the casinos. Go on your trip.

I did read that a pregnant woman breathing in second hand smoke is as bad f
  • I just went to Vegas from the 14th - 17th and the smokey smell did bother me quite a bit.  Granted, it would bother me even if I wasn't pregnant but I think I was a little more conscious of it.  I wouldn't cancel your trip, just be prepared to m

  • We are going in May for 6 days and staying at the Mandalay.  I am not worried about it.  If the casino gets too smokey for me, I will hit up the pool, the spa, shopping...anything else.  I would definitely not cancel.

Can you look into if any of the casinos have a smoke free section? I know the casinos here in CT have smoke free slots.

  • Just go on your trip and have fun.

Second hand smoke here and there is not going to be damaging.

I'm a social smoker. Of course, I've quit now that I'm pregnant, and my s/o has to go outside and smoke, because I have an adversion to the

  • I can't deal with cigarette smoke when I'm NOT pregnant, but when I am, it's like 100x worse. I had to walk out of a family gathering last time because I was going to throw up if I had to sit there with it for long. I think I'm just more sensitive about i

  • I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, pregnant or not, and when I was in Vegas last year I never even noticed it while in the casinos or on my clothes or hair after we had left. I'm sure the big casinos are very well ventilated and you'll be fine!
  • I went last March, when I was 6 months pregnant. It was fine. I didn't gamble as much as I normally would have. I went to the nicer casinos where they're well ventilated. I couldn't smell a thing, as long as I wasn't standing next to a smoker, at the Wynn

  • Thanks again everyone. We decided to go ahead and book the Bellagio for the middle of June. DH and I are going to do what a couple of you suggested and plan activities outside of the casinos everyday to at least get a break from the smoke. The Excalibur i
