December 2011 Moms

Got to vent this one..

So today while dropping DS off at DC there was a mom ripping into the center's director because her kid threw up and that's the only symptom she has and she should have been allowed to STAY!  OMGosh, I have to give the Center Director TONS of credit for holding it together with this Mom.  The Mom was going so far as to claim that her kid was sick yet again because of Daycare not cleaning and that it was their food and they need to investigate into food borne illness.  Then the Mom said that the girl had thrown up late last night but that she was fine this AM so she sent her.  Rule is "24 hours symptom free" except in cases like a few years back when the "swine flu" came through and the State Dept. of Health was telling centers that the kiddos needed to be out for a full 7 days to help prevent reinfection.

O.k. if staff doesn't have a child in their arms, they're CONSTANTLY cleaning!  This place is awesome about cleaning.  When it comes to their food handling, I've been certified as a Food Manager so notice a lot of things that most wouldn't.   I've NEVER had any questions as to their food safety or handling practices and think on some things they even go overboard.  The CD, even though she DOESN'T need it, went through Food Manager Certification too as an added backup.  Also, if the problem was a food problem, more kids would be out!

Moral of the story: While it sucks when your kid gets sick, if they're sick and puking, leave them home for the full 24 hours because sure as heck, the rest of us don't want to be infected with whatever "alpha" had!!!  If your kid is getting sick every week or every other week, and there isn't a corresponding number of kids at DC, chances are the cleaning problem is not at the DCP but look in the mirror, OR, you need to get your child checked at the Doc because of immune system problems!  ARGH!!!  Also - just go home and "kick the cat" instead of ripping into your DCP because YOUR child is still sick and you didn't keep them home even though they were throwing up last night!

  • Oh wow, it sounds like that mom had a really bad day, or maybe even other issues than just a puking child!
