I use almost exclusively Elementals and have never had to add absorbency. Mine are all the old style, though so I don't know about the new ones. I love Elementals!

Elementals absorb much, much more than Freetimes in my experience.  I rarely have to add a doubler.  DD can not go as long in Freetimes because she ends up getting compression leaks.
