CL posters are in need of a reality check

Painting a wooden piece of furniture off-white and sanding the edges a bit then calling it "shabby chic" does not make you piece of crap furniture worth $500!

I was looking for an old dresser to refinish myself. Living in NY people think everything is god damn antique and they put a crappy old dresser up on CL for $250. I've decided to just get one from ikea and put some nice anthropologie knobs on it and call

Yep, I think I am going with an Ikea dresser as well.  I will check out goodwill first to see if they have anything, but I refuse to spend more than $50 on a DIY project or it just isn't worth my time.  Plus DH has already started complaining

I know someone who literally does this for a living. She buys ten dollar dressers at garage sales and other places, distresses them and sells them for hundreds of dollars. They don't even look that wonderful... But people actually buy it.
