Trouble TTC

Genetic counseling

Do I need it? DH and I have had the "genetic screening" and so far we aren't carriers. I don't see why we have to sit with a genetic counselor .... ESP since it prob costs a few hundred bucks OOP....  Did any of you forego? Was it helpful at all if you did have it?

Re: Genetic counseling

  • why would you need it if you had the screening and you are okay? we had it because DH was a carrier of something, and because we are jewish and it's more prevalent so they wanted to prepare us in case I was (which I am not)

  • If your screening was negative, it really isn't neccessary. I say opt out, but ask your RE first why they are recommending it.

  • That's what I was thinking. I deal mostly with my RE's RN.  I asked why I should since my husband and I very unlikely have ANY genetic issues (he is Jewish and I am Chinese - so no chance for any autosomal recessive issues popping up).  I eve
