DH and I want to take the boys to San Diego this Sept (after peak summer season is over) for a little family R&R.  I haven't been to San Diego in years and never with kids, so those familiar with the area, in which city should we stay?  Del Mar? La Jolla?  Carlsbad? etc...  We plan on renting a condo via vrbo so that we won't all 4 be staying in one hotel room, having to all go to bed at 6:30 pm when the boys go down. TIA

We went last summer when LO1 was 1 1/2 and I was 7 months pregnant.  We stayed on the beach in La Jolla and it was fantastic.  We were warned that Sea World would be boring with our toddler, but DH insisted.  It was boring and a huge waste
