Virgin drinks?

DH and I are going out of town tonight with friends. We haven't even shared with our parents let alone these friends that we're expecting. Have any of you had to play it off by ordering a non alcoholic beverage that looks like one? A friend of mine would have bloody Mary's or cranberry spritzer. I'm typically a beer drinker and afraid the sudden mix drink that I didn't order in front of then might give it away.

Re: Virgin drinks?

  • I would order a virgin mojito from the bar maybe play it off as your good weather drink of choice!

  • Never would've thought of that. Great idea, thank you!
  • Just get a bottle of beer and nurse it. Or tell them you aren't feeling well and not drinking. Unless you are college age nobody is going to make you chug a drink to prove you're drinking or anything. Have fun!
  • You can let the bartender to know to keep quiet on the virgin aspect and keep them coming too : good luck!

  • We had friends over this week and so I opened a beer and would casually pour a little bit at a time down the sink. They wouldn't make me uncomfortable about not drinking, but the first question would be if I am pregnant! We are going out tonight too and I
  • I order vodka sprite aka just sprite with a lime in it :. Also, I'm always the dd so that helps

  • I've gone out with friends before who were big beer drinkers and then they ordered a rum and diet coke or a sprite (or seltzer) and vodka. When I asked about the change they said it was better for them (don't know if that is true) but I never thou

  • If they question why you aren't drinking beer just tell them you were in the mood for a mixed drink.  Or you can say you are on antibiotics for a sinus infection and cannot drink.
  • This question comes up often on TB and honestly I really feel that these elaborate schemes to order virgin cocktails is unnecessary. When I'm out for dinner with friends I could care less if they order a drink or not. Honestly, most times I don't even pay
  • I totally understand this "problem".  I'm always the life of the party and known for having cocktails (and cocktail parties) and laughs.  Plus, our friends want us to be pregnant more than us (I think they think it will be fun).  Anyways

  • I'll have wine tonight with dinner, but just take the first sip and then hold it and let H finish it. Since I'll be the DD for awhile, he doesn't mind doing double duty!
