Babies: 9 - 12 Months

self weaning

The past few days my little guy has been quite fussy while nursing. I usually nurse for 20 minutes before bed and then give him a 4oz of formula. The past few nights I'm lucky if he nurses for 15 minutes but when he sees the bottle he seems almost relieved. He hasn't been really interested in nursing in the morning either. Could he be self weaning?

Re: self weaning

  • Could be teething?!?  Sometimes before DD breaks a tooth she doesn't eat as much.  I read that babies don't truly self-wean before a year, but I've also heard a few people say that their babies did... so who knows....

  • Most sources say babies don't self wean before a year.

I've read that 9 to 14 months is when babies are most distracted during nursing. For some moms, this happily works out for weaning because mom is ready and baby is too busy to care. <br /

  • I think you're right. I noticed a big increase in drool today & he's putting everything in his mouth. I'm sure this too shall pass. Not super concerned as long as he's eating SOMETHING.
