I have to say I don't mind place names in general. I actually like quite a few of them
I love names like Savannah, Catalina and Carolina (wouldn't use, but appreciate), but I seriously cringe everytime someone either talks about using this name or mentions someone they know with the name. Like, my eyes roll so hard out of my head that I get dizzy.
I think the main reason is because I am a native Brooklynite-- and I wonder if other people have the same reaction to the place names from their own home towns. Don't get me wrong, I loved growing up there, but it just seems so GD silly to me to name your child this.
So my question is--if you are from a particular place that has a "namey" name-- does it make you hate just that "place name" or are you a general "place name" hater?
I am genuinely curious, and I do apologize if I offend anyone that has a LO named Brooklyn. I am sure your child is lovely.

Re: s/o Brooklyn
*raises hand*
My kid is named after a place - albeit one not well known - and Brooklyn always makes me cringe. Perhaps because, unlike many "place names" like Charlotte or Georgia - it was not a name first.
I'm in NC and don't bat an eye i

My husband REALLY loves the name Georgia for a girl, and that's where he grew up....and where we live now. I like the name too.
Some place names are ok, I don't mind Savannah, but I do kind of roll my eyes at little Brooklyn. D
I dislike place names in general, but I do like a few like Lorraine and Chelsea.
I used to joke about giving a daughter the MN Portlandia, which is a famous statue in my city. Now since there is a tv show that adopted the name it would be incredi
I strongly dislike Camden. It is a bad city in Jersey across the river from Philly.
I also dislike Easton, a town not far from me now. I have nothing against the town, the name is just nms.
