Non-pretentious old-man type names

I love old-lady / old-man type names. If we have a boy, we are going to use a really pretentious sounding family surname as a middle name. So I want to make sure the first name isn't snotty sounding, which a lot of old-man names are. Right now my top choices are Norman, Howard, and Alfred (nn Fred).

LO's last name starts with Sh- and ends with -er, so some of my favorites are out (Ernest, Arthur, and Linus).

Any suggestions?

Everett (obviously I love this name). The last time it was very popular was 1925, when it was in the top 100 name for boys. I hear a lot of "Oh, my grandfathers name is Everett!".
