Car seat question

Maybe STM or TTMs can answer this for me:
So I know it makes economical sense to get a convertible car seat that can be used with a fairly large child, but they are so bulky. It's pretty common to carry around a new baby in the carseat while they're still teeny and sleeping a lot. What do you guys recommend? I'm fairly petite and even infant car seats are heavy even when their empty. Help! :)

Re: Car seat question

  • We will be getting both an infant seat as well as the convertible for all of the reasons you listed. They each have their own perks vs drawbacks and it depends a lot on your lifestyle and your car(s). Many people do perfectly fine doing just a convertible

  • You can only carry around LO in an infant car seat.  The convertible ones just stay in the car all the time.  We bought and used both.  DD switched to the convertible around 9 months when she was starting to want to sit more upright.

  • We have both. Good thing about infant seat is you can buy an extra base for a second car. With the bigger seat for my daughter, we have 1 for each car since husband takes her to preschool and I pick up. Some people switch them out from car to car but that

  • We used the infant seat for almost the whole first year - DS wasn't too big, and I loved the convenience. We had a base for each car, and just the one seat. Graco snugride. We didn't do the snugride 35 because there's no way you're going to want to car

  • I'm skipping the infant seat this time around. I just had the worst time with my back problems last time. Yes, it was worth it to cart a sleeping NB somewhere, but honestly, if I didn't have help then it was miserable.

  • Thanks so much for all the insight! Now how did you narrow down which one to buy? I have researched just a little since I am only 12 weeks, but it still seems overwhelming... especially at Buy Buy Baby lol

  • We had a Graco Snugride which we used with DD until she was around 1 y/o and then we switched her to the Britax Marathon (which I love).  This works well now as we can use the Graco with baby 2 which DD continues to use the Britax.  The infant s

  • We got the Snugride 35 last time, with three bases (me, DH, and my Mom). We'll use that again this time. If I had it to do over, I would have gotten the smaller infant seat. We didn't come anywhere NEAR the height or weight limit for our seat.

  • We used both, and will again for this LO.

It's more convenient to be able to strap LO in while you are still inside and carry them in. I prefer to be able to carry them in and out of places in the infant seat. I do think I will be wearing this on

I got an infant car seat for DS and switched him to a convertible car seat when he was 13 months. The infant car seat goes up to 30 lbs but his legs were too long and he was pushing against the back of the seat. Also at 23 lbs I couldn't carry him in it a
