WDYT of Augusta?

Okay BNB ladies, what are your thoughts on the name Augusta? I remember seeing it here a while back and really liking it, but don't remember the general consensus on the name. Do you immediately think of golf? Or the states of Maine/Georgia?

The middle name is Alexandra (we're okay with the alliteration and length). Last name is very common; begins with J and ends in -son.

Re: WDYT of Augusta?

  • I like August on a boy but, I really do not like Augusta on a girl.
  • Not a fan, think of golf and cities.

  • NMS for a girl.  I really don't think it's a bad name, just a little harsh.

I can't help but think of the little boy on Willy Wonka.  Augustus Gloop, Augustus Gloop, the great big greedy nincompoop.

  • Augusta Alexandra Johnson (just a guess) sounds like such a mouthful. I really don't like the alliteration and length, even though you said you do.

Augusta immediately reminds me of Georgia. Immediately. Also Golf of

  • Augusta is my number one name, but I couldn't convince my DH to use it. I adore it. I don't know if I like it with Alexandra. I don't like names ending in the same letter. Plus, they are both well known cities which makes it also sound odd. But love A

  • This is for a girl? I don't like it at all. Augusta Alexandra Johnson (I;m just throwing a name out there) is way too much and the name alone just bothers me. I'm thinking the nickname might be Aggie and that's not very cute <img src="https://community.

  • NMS.

I don't really like it for a boy or girl, sorry.

  • I immediately think of golf, and I'm not even a golfer.  But it is the location for the Masters - the biggest pro golf tournament.

And Augusta just allowed women to join their club last year, not to mention how long it took them to

  • Eh, it's OK. I agree with those who find it a bit harsh-sounding; I don't hear it and think "pretty" at all ... and it doesn't seem to lend itself to any appealing nicknames. I really don't like it with Alexandra. Too heavy as a combination.

  • I also hate golf, but that is still what Augusta makes me think of.  I also don't like it with Alexandra.

  • I absolutely love it! It's the name we used for the twin I lost while pregnant with my DD. I don't mind the alliteration of Augusta Alexandra. I think in this case, it flows nicely and is a great choice! I don't associate it with golf, Maine or Georgia.
