Should I get widescreen or fullscreen DVD version??

and WTF is the difference?

Technology is getting to me. Back in the early 90s I was ahead of the game, my best friends were techies and I was up with things more than most non-techs.

Now I am left behind. Ah well

Am trying to order stuff through Amazon and I don't know if I should order the widescreen or fullscreen versions?

I'm guessing full screen since we don't have a widescreen tv??

Re: Should I get widescreen or fullscreen DVD version??

  • Widescreen.  It doesn't matter what kind of TV you have.  Fullscreen cuts off a % of the action on either side of the movie, crops it to make it more narrow.  With widescreen you will see top to bottom, it will just be a bit more narrow. You'll also see more R-L no matter what TV you have.

  • I always buy widescreen because even if you don't have widescreen t.v., the film appears as it was originally shot on film (just with the black bars above and below). Fullscreen means the image has been cut and squashed to fit the older style square screens. I'm a film school nerd though, so I say go with the widescreen.

  • Loading the player...
  • My DH refuses to watch movies if not the widescreen version.  But if you don't have a widescreen tv and don't want to see the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, I guess fullscreen is the way to go.
  • Thanks! Widescreen it is!

I said I was an old fogey.?
