We just found out that my ILs are thinking of putting their dog down. They are older, and the dog is too strong for them. He pulls and knocks them down, which is a major problem for my FIL, who is due for back surgery, but also a problem because MIL injures easily (or makes a huge deal out of everything).
This is not the dog's fault. He likes to run and their fence is low enough that he can jump it. When he goes out he has to be walked on a leash to a chain on a tree. His early life in another home was abusive and lacked training, and my ILs don't have the time to do the intensive remedial training that he needs. He's so sweet tempered, but hates other dogs or we would take him ourselves. The only dog he gets along with is my IL's other dog.
I just don't know what to do. I can't believe they'd even entertain this idea without trying to rehome him. DH is on the phone now trying to buy enough time that we can find this dog a home. Please cross your fingers for this poor pup!
Oh, and if any of you Virginia ladies is looking for a dog, his name is Bear and he's a black lab mix!!!!! Age unknown, but probably around 7 or so.
