1st Trimester

Anyone discover hypothyroidism in early pregnancy?

My doctor called last night with the results of my 1st trimester blood work and said my TSH was 8.7 and I need to start on Synthroid ASAP. I'm 7 weeks today and I am just concerned because the baby has been developing for 5 weeks and might not have been getting the thyroid hormones it needs since it can't make it's own yet. Am I being paranoid? Started the medication this morning.

  • I am taking the synthroid.  I don't have issues taking medication for this, as I understand that being hypothyroid during pregnancy causes far greater risk to the baby.

     My T4 wasn't low...it was just the TSH that was high.
