Hi everyone, I read that untreated BV will almost inevitably result in pre-term labor or birth. First of all, is this true? I also heard that the risk doesn't always go away with treatment. I have a feeling that the treatment itself also poses some risk to the baby. Secondly, I read that at least 50% of people with BV don't have symptoms and that this is a very common condition for women. If that's true then wouldn't there be massively high rates of pre-term deliveries? How do people get diagnosed without symptoms? I'm just trying to put these aggravating statistics in perspective. My pregnancy has been very difficult. I was treated for a UTI at around 9 weeks. I've been freaking out about exposing my baby to antibiotics so early on. I have untreated mild thyroid disorder. Now I'm suspecting that I might have had BV this whole time. I feel like my baby doesn't stand a chance with all these issues. To make matters worse, I have absolutely NO pregnancy symptoms. Not even in the beginning. I don't have my period. That's about it. My midwife is very hands-off which I wanted at first but now I'm getting stressed. We did hear a heart beat at 11 weeks which I know is supposed to be a good sign. I'm just feeling like I can't enjoy this pregnancy if all of these subtle health issues are going to cause problems. I'm also feeling insecure that my only proof is a heart beat and absent menses. Almost out of my first trimester and no belly. I don't feel any different than I did before pregnancy. Just needing some support this morning. I'm feeling so discouraged. Thank you and blessings to your little babies!
Re: Bacterial Vaginosis
I actually have BV. I went to the ER for cramping/bleeding and the doctor there gave me a pelvic exam, among other things. The pelvic exam is what caused the doctor to diagnose me with BV.
It was not detected by my OBGYN.
I would suggest
I had an untreated mild thyroid condition with my first LO, but was convinced to take levoxyl, to stabilize tsh levels at pregnancy range. I am glad I did, I did a lot of research then because I didnt want to take meds, but not taking them actually doe
