The car seat post got me thinking about a stories my MIL tells about Dh not having a car seat and crawling around on the floor when they drove. My mom was staying at our house when Ds was born and put her to sleep with a blanket over her face..."because that's how she would get me to sleep". Anyone else have crazy parents' parenting stories? It's amazing we all survived, right?!

i sat in the front seat, sans seatbelt from like 5-6 years old on lol

 

my parents drove across the freaking country with my brother in a 'car bed' which was NOT strapped down, just sitting on the back seat.

My sister and I say this all the time.  I know my parents drove half way across the country with me sleeping right behind the passenger side seat on the floor.  I was like WHAT!!! Thankfully my parents haven't done anything to crazy with DD b

Ha! My parents drove from Ontario to Calgary with me sleeping in the front seat between my parents. Good times. I also remember driving to Calgary and folding down the back seats to sleep in the trunk because it was dark.

My mom smoked with all five of us.

My grandma smoked and drank with all 6 of hers.

Yeah, every summer we'd make the drive from NY to SC with my brother and I taking turns laying on the floor in the back seat.  It makes me shudder to think of it now.

Absolutely. In no way am I minimizing what society has learned over the past 30 or so years through experience. Just thinking about all the ways the "norms" have changed.

when i was 5 i sat in the "trunk" of a station wagon from Tennessee to Micgigan

it was also filed with luggage.

i decided to raise my kids the exact opposite as my parents!

When I was ten, I rode in the back of my dad's pickup truck sitting in an empty fridge box to keep it from flying out. We were taking it to the dump. Awesome country living times... Ha!

I used to lay in the back of my parents nova while they drove around Los Angeles. It was so fun looking out the huge window at night.

My parents would definitely never go anywhere without the girls strapped in.

I was a total latch-key kid.  If I felt like eating McDonald's, I would walk two miles to the nearest one and then walk back home.  It wasn't a big deal back then.  My sisters and I took care of ourselves during the summer and after school.
