GD how high is to high?

So I had my anatomy U/S today and we were so happy to see our LO just moving and strong as can be. My question is, how high were your numbers before you got put on insulin. I was diagnosed with GD at 13 weeks and so far I have been diet controlled but now I'm entering 19 weeks and my numbers have been elevating all week as high as 156 for some lunches. I think it may have to do with not being able to walk around this week due to a hematoma. Now I'm just worried that when I turn my numbers in to my nutritionist they will put me on insulin and I'm not to sure what to expect.

Re: GD how high is to high?

  • 156 is kind of high, however, the first line of treatment after diet is not normally to skip straight to insulin. Usually, the doctors will start you on a low dose of Glyburide and over time max out the dosage if needed before going to insulin. If only so

  • Did they give you guidelines? My Diabetic educator was very specific that my fasting was supposed to be under 90 and my one hour post meals needs to be under 130. So 156 would be considered high for me. They also said besides diet and exercise the only

  • My first question is what have you been eating for lunch?? My dr said that 20 percent of my number would need to be high for them to put me on any meds.

  • OP, only you know what you are comfortable with. I can tell you that in my experience my MFM Dr.'s have been using Glyburide for over 25 years with no more complications than Insulin. Insulin, though is useful when the numbers are really hard to control.
  • I think every doctor is different, as well.  I know, for me, I have to be under 90 for fasting and I had one day that I was AT 90 and they wanted to put me on insulin.  I fought with them and I'm glad I did because since then (about 6 weeks ago)
  • I'm on Metformin, which is pregnancy category B. My fasting numbers were normally 110 to 130, and I had at least one number post meal over 140 each day. I've had a lot of problems with my breakfast numbers.
    I'm still having trouble. I haven't had a

  • So my fast number should be under 94 and my meals should be under 135 so I had to do some adjusting in my diet. Apparently I can eat pastas but can't eat rice of any kind without my numbers going through the roof so needless to say no rice for me. My Dr t
  • Glyburide is the standard unless your numbers are really bad or, like me, are allergic to sulfa.
