Ok so let me preface this by saying I am a ridiculous easy going, non confrontational, 'do whatever works for you', go with the flow person/parent, and normally weird comments like this wouldn't bother me, but one stuck. But my MIL made a comment yesterday that bothered us both.
(MIL watches M, DH's 7yr old niece, as well, before/after school and on school holidays/summers)
When I picked up Kate last yesterday, MIL said M 'was getting upset that I was holding her, so I had to put her down in the crib and just let her cry until she fell alseep'. I asked how long, she said 10-15 minutes. I just said 'ok, that's the most I've ever gone, as long as it never lasts more than that'. End of conversation.
I come home and told DH. We don't mind that Kate cried/screamed for 10-15 minutes, as we've had to do it a couple times too, when we know that she's been fed, changed, is just super tired. But, it sounded like she put her down for the sole purpose of not wanting to upset M. Which, to us, kind of annoying. So then I looked at the feeding log (she just writes down when she naps/feeds so I have an idea) and we got pretty upset. I had fed her before I brought her over there at 6:30am. Apparently, she went down for this screaming nap at 10-1. And she NEVER fed her before the nap. DUDE. She was probably screaming because she was hungry. So now in my head, what happend, was that M got upset because MIL was holding Kate. MIL got flustered with M, and literally forgot to feed her and just put her down.
Now, will my kid starve? Nope. Is she fine? Absolutely. But do you think it's something worth asking about tomorrow? Why she didn't get fed before the nap? (didn't bring her to MIL today, I work from home).

Ok thanks guys. No, I would never throw away our relationship over one missed bottle.
I think our concern was that it seemed like she put the 7 yr olds 'needs' (getting upset because Grandma wasn't paying enough attention to her)
