I have been EPing bc LO wouldn't latch due to being tongue tied. I have been getting 2oz or less at each pump (super frustrating). About two weeks ago my breasts felt like they did when my milk came in... extremely sore and I could feel hard spots in them. I called the LC from the hospital and she told me to pump 30 mins instead of 15 and to increase the suction since it sounded like my breasts weren't fully emptying. It helped with the pain but not the amount. So, I noticed yesterday that my babies tongue was starting to correct itself and that it had little tears in it underneath so I thought I would give breastfeeding a try. He latched on for about 5mins and I could hear him swallowing, but it was EXTREMELY painful because he still wasn't doing it properly. Now today my boobs feel super engorged and painful again with hard spots and the pump isn't helping. I tried putting him on my breast again to see if this would help but I couldn't leave him on, it actually brought tears to my eyes it was so painful.
I don't know what to do. This has been miserable. Nothing I do increases my milk supply and my breasts hurt so bad...any suggestions on why you think the pump isn't emptying them? I'm desperate! I'll try anything to feel some relieve/make more milk. Things I've tried - fenugreek seed, warm compresses, holding baby to breasts, increasing pump sessions and times, getting my thyroid checked, mother's milk tea, drinking lots of water, I even had a LC come to my house. Barely getting 2oz per pump does not seem worth all of this grief! Someone talk me off the ledge.
Re: Battle with BF
How often are you getting 2ozs and is that from each side or combined? Are you having to suppliment or is that cutting it for your LO? Have you tried a nipple shield for the latch issue?
BF hurt me during the first week (LO was latching on correctly, but it still hurt and my nipples were super sore!). <SPAN style="FONT-FAMI
My DS was tongue tied and this sounds much like my experience. We had his frenulectomy done at 5 weeks which helped with his latch. I also used a nipple shield until he was four months. Both to help with latching
I can totally understand what you are going through. I was not producing enough milk so I do BF then supplement. I did the whole pumping thing but was hardly getting enough with that as well. I was in tears with my husband feeling so
