Gender Reveal ideas?

We've been thinking of having a gender reveal party/housewarming party since we just moved - and I have been trying to think of creative ways to find out the baby's sex.  There is always the standard - cake center frosting color, and I've seen a lot of balloons out of box type surprise.  I want something creative and unique.

The one idea that I had is to use a pi?ata.  Maybe I can find a baby related pi?ata, and then have it secretly stuffed with either pink or blue confetti and candy, and then let my friend's kids have at it with a bat. 

Any other ideas?

Lord knows Pinterest should have tons of ideas... I've seen the cake/cupcake filling reveal, ballons out of the box, different color drink punches, etc... I haven't seen your pinata idea anywhere. I like it and it sounds fun for the kiddos!

I have actually seen the pinata idea on another website and I was thinking of that as well but not too sure. I think you can actually get like a pinata in the shape of a baby bottle.

Friend of ours had a backyard party and their gender reveal was homemade ice cream for desert, strawberry for girl, blueberry for boy.  I thought it was cute and different.

I love the team pink and team blue - and perhaps having people vote on what they think it is prior to the reveal - just adds to the fun!

We will be finding out just a few days before DD's first birthday so we will reveal at her party...I'm looking forward to hearing ideas!  I was probably going to just do the cake reveal but we'll see if something more original comes up.

I know it's not that original but my favorite one I've seen is the balloon idea.

To me there is something kind of weird about whacking the crap out of a pinata to find out the sex, but that's just my opinion!

I was curious what Pinterest had to offer after reading all these responses and first link I clicked on was this adorable gender reveal party.  The actual reveal is pretty creative and different.

My SIL did cupcakes.  The frosting on top what white but the frosting in the center was blue (she had a boy obviously). I would've been pink for a girl. We all bit into our cupcakes at the same time.
