C-sections

Lifting, driving, walking upstairs

DD#1 is 27 lbs and I had a c-section on 3/18. I feel like I'm ready to lift her but I don't want to hurt myself and regret doing too much. This recovery is so much easier than my 1st c-section recovery.

How soon after your c-section were you able to comfortably lift your baby in a bucket-type carseat? If you have a toddler, when were you able to lift him or her?

When did you walk upstairs more than once per day? Drive?

  • I was not allowed to do any of that for 6 weeks.

  • I drove myself for the first time about a week and a half after my c section. Now at 2 weeks out, I'm just now starting to feel comfortable lifting him in his carseat. I feel like I'm having a very easy, very quick recovery compared to a lot of people tho

  • After I had my DD was was doing all of those things about a week after my c-section. I was home by myself so I had no choice. I just took it very slowly and I was fine. I also avoided taking my pain meds when I knew I was driving.
  • I was driving at 9 days (I was only on ibuprofen and tylonel and the main reason you can't drive is because of being on meds) because I was absolutely stir crazy.  My husband was deployed at the time so if I wanted to go somewhere I'd have to find so

  • I had an emergency C-section on Mar 7th.  I used the stairs a few times a day the first week.  I took it easy for about 2 weeks not lifting laundry baskets etc.

By week 3 I wasn't really restricted at all...but I still do not lift

  • I was told to wait 6 weeks.  I follow Dr's orders no matter what.  Remember that all the internal damage from the surgery is what Drs are worried about.  The incision is a tiny issue.  If you end up lifting and tearing internally, i

  • Driving is an easy one to answer: don't drive if you're still taking the narcotic pain meds or anything that is labeled "Do not drive while taking this medicine." I was told 2 weeks for driving, I had been off the roxicet since a few days PP, and I dro

  • I've been going up and down our stairs as needed now. I'm 1 week post csection.
I was told 2 weeks for driving. I'm really not taking any pain medication anymore, and I think that's one of the main issues with driving. My incision isn't sore at all

  • Lifting DS#2 and carseat after a few days.  DS#1- I lifted a couple of times because I forgot that I wasn't supposed to.  Talked to Dr today at 2 week check- advised no lifting until 3 weeks post c-section.  Then to use support to assist

  • I lifted DD in her bucket into the car around 3 wks pp. It was a little difficult because I have a SUV and I'm short, so I had to lift it way up. I didn't have a toddler.

I was walking up and down the stairs more than once by about 2wks pp. I

  • I was driving 5 days after my csection, because nobody at the hospital had told me not to. I felt fine. I did stairs as soon as I came home from the hospital. I was pretty strict about what I carried, though. Not lifting anything heavier than the baby was

  • I drove a little 2 weeks PP, and did stairs probably 1.5 weeks PP.  We live in a one story though, so I only had to do them to go down to the basement to do laundry.  I'm almost 6 weeks now, and still trying not to lift anything heavier tha
  • I have stairs at home and did them regularly from the day I was sent home, so 4 days pp for that.  I tiried to limit it but still probably was back and forth at least 3-4 times a day.
