Short Naps

Seems like short naps are a common theme around here! DD just turned 4 months and napping longer than 45 minutes is rare.  My question is...when your LO wakes from a short nap, do you try to get them back to sleep? I would be OK with a short nap if she woke rested, but after about 10 minutes she is fussy because she didnt get enough sleep.  So I find myself spending so long every morning trying to get her back to sleep, multiple attempts, and it frustrates me every day.

Should I just get her up, move on and accept the short nap?  I follow the EASY method and DD only eats 4 times a day, but big 8 oz bottles.  So if she wakes early she still has a while to go before eating which could run into next nap.  I didn't put her on a schedule...this is what she started doing on her own.

Just looking for advice on the short naps because I feel like I'm spending the better part of my day getting her to go back to sleep.  Anyone do nap training?? If so, what worked?

Re: Short Naps

  • Mine takes short naps too. Getting 45 mins is a GOOD one. I find as long as she gets at least 3 of them in during the day, she's ok for bedtime. When she wakes up before the 45 minute mark, I DO put her paci back in to try and extend the nap. Have never d

  • I wish she took a paci but she spits it out after 5 minutes.  I guess I'll be thankful later haha.  She is still swaddled since her startle reflex is pretty strong but still a short nap :-(
  • My LO only takes 15-45 mins naps now days too.  If she wakes up from a nap, I don't usually try to put her down again.  I mostly just play with her until she show signs of wanting to take another nap.

  • This is so us too.  I am lucky if a nap in the crib goes more than 25-30 mins (he will sleep on me for at least an hour).  My pedi says it is because LO can't self sooth yet and that I need to work on putting him down drowsy for bedtime fir
  • I always try to get her back to sleep after a short nap. I either rock her or put her in the swing. Most of the time she goes back to sleep.

  • DS has the 30 minute intruder big time.  I can set my watch by it, it's always exactly 30 min.  I always try to get DS to go back to sleep.  I wouldn't if he was fine with a short nap, but he's not, he's a cranky mess.  And like you
