B & B Recommendations for Southern Minnesota

DH and I are expecting our first in October and would like to get away for a 2-3 day weekend sometime in July or August.  We go to the North Shore pretty frequently so would like to see a part of Minnesota we haven't really seen before.  Any recommendations for somewhere to stay within 2-3 hrs of the cities that's not Northern MN.

Re: B & B Recommendations for Southern Minnesota

  • It's not a B & B, but my mom and stepdad love the St. James Hotel in Red Wing.

  • I was going to suggest Red Wing as well.  DH and I went there a few years ago and stayed at the Octagon House.  I'm not sure if it's still there but we really liked it.  I haven't been to New Ulm, but I've heard it's a really cute town.

  • How about Stillwater? There are a lot of B Bs in that area. If you google Bb in Stillwater it brings up a list of them.
  • Stillwater and Red Wing are both beautiful!

  • We considered Red Wing too! So many options! If you like the Taylors Falls area we stayed at one in St Croix on the river. Gorgeous!!!

  • I'm from Red Wing and I highly suggest any if these: Moondance Inn, Golden Lantern, Candlelight Inn. These are all within a five block distance of downtown. The Round Barn is south of town a couple miles. The St. James is a nice option too. Recommendations for in Red Wing: Hanisch Bakery is so good!, great bike trail the Cannon Valley Trail, great little shops downtown, beautiful winery Falconer Vineyards a bit north of downtown. You can also go tubing on the Cannon River which is nice and relaxing on a hot summer day, this is out of Welch which is north of town about 5 minutes.

ETA: didn't pay attention you are still expecting, sorry! The winery has woodfired pizzas, so that's an option if you want to relax and enjoy the view and not drink. :

  • Berwood Hill Inn in Lanesboro, MN. We got married here and absolutely love it. Their breakfast was to DIE for. There is so much to do in the Lanesboro, Preston, Harmony area, and it is, in my opinion, the most beautiful part of Minnesota!
  • I second the Lanesboro area- we go to the Inn at Sacred Clay Farm every year and we adore it. Books quickly in the summer though. Fred and Sandy are the most amazing innkeepers- it's very peaceful and not county-kitchy at all.
