Breastfeeding

It wasn't a clogged duct, or abscess! It was a tumor. WWYD?

I have a benign tumor in my breast that formed when my milk came in. My surgeon said it should get smaller (now it's the size of a very large walnut,) when I'm done lactating, and could have it removed then (or I could keep it forever). However, we plan to...

 1. BF until baby is a year old. That'll be Feb 2014.

2. Move out of town this July.

So, I'd have new insurance and a pre-existing condition, which means the new insurance wouldn't cover the removal surgery.

What would you do?

  • Why did he recommend waiting until your done lactating? Will removing it effect your supply? Can your doctor state that it is benign and no treatment is needed at this time, therefore if it becomes problematic down the road maybe your insurance will co

    Unless it's causing you pain or creating blocked ducts, I'd leave it alone. I have a fibroadenoma the size of a marble, but I chose not to have it removed because it just doesn't bother me. Mine hasn't changed size through 2 pregnancies and breastfeedi
