I "survived" my hysteroscopy today. Except for the IV insertion triggering a vasovagal response (almost fainting), it was a piece of cake. It is a same day surgery procedure under anesthesia. I have a little bleeding some slight soreness and cramping but nothing major that Advil can't help.
I am excited to stop taking birth control (norethindrone, progestin only). I'm curious to see how quickly I ovulate. I was in the first week of my cycle when I started taking it. Luckily, I was given a whole lot of Lh strips. Anyone with experience?
I am also optimistic about getting pregnant after this surgical intervention. Our RE thinks that the polyp was the culprit and wants us to try on our own. I found a research article that confirms my RE's opinion. The researchers performed a randomized control trial on ~200 infertility patients with polyps. To be included, the couples needed to be actively trying for 24 months, have a polyp and not have anovulation, azoospermia or tubal disease. ~100 patients had the hysteroscopy with removal polyp and the control group had the hysteroscopy without removal of the polyp. Of the patients who had the polyp removal, 64% became pregnant after 4 IUI's. 65% (~40 total) of these patient got pregnant before IUIs were even started. Compared to the control group (with polyps) only 29% of the patients got pregnant after 4 IUI's. Size of polyp didn't statistically change pregnancy outcome. https://humrep.oxfordjournals.org/content/20/6/1632.long
