Blighted ovum but hcg rising normally

Hi. This is my first pregnancy and I was really excited about this. My LMP was Jan 25 and had been off of bc since late Dec so we could start trying. I went to the ER on Tuesday bc I had been cramping badly all day on my left side and when I got home had a small blood clot and spotting after I used the restroom. The ER did an ultrasound and although I should have been 7 weeks 4 days they kept asking me if my dates could be off because when they did the ultrasound there was only a gestational sac and yolk sac, no baby. I went to the dr two days later and they did another u/s and the tech said it was 100 blighted ovum based on my dates. My hcg levels have continued to double like they are supposed to but have always seemed low like maybe I was off. I have PCOS and found out when I requested my records today that I have a very large cyst in my left ovary, probably from my first month off of bc.

I don't really know that I have a question except want to know of anyone else has ever had this experience and what was the outcome? Other than the left ovary hurting I have felt perfectly fine physically. No more spotting in a week and no cramping aside from that. I am really wanting some hope but am afraid to get my hopes too high because this is very difficult. I was basically told by a fill in dr last week that I would have to wait to m/c and that sucks, especially because I'm still having the morning sickness... I have an appt what I had originally scheduled as my first prenatal visit on the 4th but that seems so far away.

Thank you in advance for your comments. I just was wondering how likely a positive outcome would be and needed to hear it from someone who might have been through something similar.

  • My pos test was on the 8th and had an hcg of 284 on the 9th. On the 18 it was in the 3400s.

  • I usually ovulate late, so I'm not as far along as my LMP would indicate. I wouldn't count yourself out yet!

Not to give false hope or any medical advice really, but if I were you, I would 100 percent take a wait and see approach. Good luck!
