How do you take someone's name off of a mortgage? Do you have to refinance to do it or can it be done at any time?

Refinance if you can it's not always an option. Or sell.
It's not an easy removal.

It depends on the circumstances -- I would imagine death/divorce have different circumstances than co-signing or something.

The mortgage or the deed? Two different things. I would call the lawyer who handled your closing and ask.

In cases of Divorce it is usually a refinancing issue. Contact a real estate attorney or mortgage broker. Or contact your mortgage company.

Refinance and retitle. If there isn't a loan just retitle, but there is a fee
