Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Who still MOTN nurses?

If yes, how frequently throughout the night? How is the sleep?

I'm at a loss. Think we are now going through the 9-month sleep regression. DS has not been a good sleeper since hitting the 4-month wakeful. We slowly eliminated all but one MOTN feeding and then did Ferber training at 7 months. Before that he was comfort nursing every 2 to 3 hours. Sleep training worked well for a couple weeks then it all went to hell again and we become even more inconsistent by going to him. I would like to continue to keep the one MOTN feeding. I hate listening to him cry (even if it is just complaining for us). I can't distinguish between hungry crying or just him wanting us to come to his room. I only did Ferber because I thought I could deal with crying if it was only for a week or less. I'm sure he is confused because I go in one time to nurse him but not for the other wakings.

He's waking every 3 to 4 hours now and I'm thinking about giving up on sleep training and just nursing him every time and see how the next couple months go. At least it will give him consistency. I guess if it gets even worse, I can always try again later.

  • My son used to wake every 2-3 hours, and then we did sleep training which worked for a while, then regression. I had a simliar issue to yours that I had a hard time knowing for sure what was for food and what was for comfort. Normally I went in there like

  • DD wakes up 2-3 times a night.

This is fine with me for now....since I don't need to get up early and she just goes straight back to sleep.  When I go back to work in May I might have to look into weaning her.

  • With DD#1, we MOTN nursed until she was 18 months old.  She would wake every 3-4 hours nurse and then go immediately back down.  It didn't really bother me, so we just went with it. I hated to hear her cry and man could she cry.

  • I did until my LO was about 10.5 months because of teething. Then we got a break from teeth coming in and we went back to his sleep training and he's been STTN ever since.

  • DS wakes at least twice to nurse.  Goes back to sleep right after.  He was born at 36 weeks and is still small.  It doesn't really bother me and since he nurses for at least 15 minutes each time, I figure he's actually hungry.  I figur

  • DS still nurses at night.  Last week, he went down to just 1x a night for a handful of nights, then the last few nights he's been waking 2x.  I nurse him, he eats for 10-15 mins and falls right back asleep.  He has had ear infe

  • I do a dream feed at 10:30 PM - that way I know if he wakes up during the night it is not because of hunger, and I am not giving him the message that he gets food for crying.  It has worked for us since 6 months when we did the Sleep Lady Shuffle for

  • My DD still nurses at night.  I have no idea how often...we bedshare and I really don't pay that much attention.  It is easy for me to just let her latch on and then pop her off.  I would guess that she nurses twice a night...but really,

  • Thanks for all the responses and advice. I had a change of heart last night and just decided to try and go with the flow again and listen to my baby instead of books that say they can go all night without eating at this point. Like you all pointed out, th

  • I follow baby's lead...and eventually they grow out of it. Right now, we nurse about three times through the night (co-sleeping). My first DD weaned around 15m from night feedings (she was eating solids well enough and it just wasn't needed anymore. Se
