Applying for Nursery School Early

My husband and I know we want to put our future child in nursery school rather than go the Nanny route. It seems early. I'm about 6 weeks, but with already semi-long waiting lists and an expected influx of Sandy babies in the late summer, is anyone getting on lists early? I ask because there is a day care open house in our neighborhood today, and I don't want to look like a freak when I show up.
