March 2013 Moms

Question for new moms

I gave birth March 13 and ever since I have not had any appetite whatsoever.  I have to remind myself to eat, and when I do, I can't finish meals and nothing tastes or sounds good anymore.  This is very strange for me, because I've always been a big foodie, and during pregnancy I was constantly hungry and would eat everything in sight!

I am sure that it has something to do with the stress of being a new mom, but has anyone else experienced this?  I am nursing, but supplementing with formula also, and I'm worried that I'm not getting enough calories.  I've dropped my pregnancy weight pretty quickly (have lost 22 of the 30 pounds I gained within 8 days).

Anyone else?  At what point should I talk to someone about this?

  • I'm the opposite. I am starving and thirsty 24/7. You may just need to eat small portions every few hours.

I'd call the OB and see what they suggest.

  • That happened to me with my first. I would be hungry but eat one bite and couldn't eat anymore. I think it's just things settling back in place and it messes you up some.

Things got back to normal fairly quickly. I would just make sure to eat

  • I am having the same issue. I just make myself eat and keep snacks around.  I have lost 22 of the 30 pounds I gained as well, but I delivered on the 7th.  I have heard if you don't eat enough it will affect your milk production, so keep trying t

  • I'm the exact same. I've lost 30 pounds in two weeks and am now ten pounds less than prepregnancy. I'm not the slightest bit worried! Just make yourself drink water and don't worry about it!

  • I had my baby on the 1st and I had the same problem. It'd be like "damn it's 2pm and all I had was a waffle", mine got better by 2 weeks. Just Try to eat lots of little snacks. That was tr easiest for me!

  • Same here. I had my baby on the 14th and have already lost 22 lbs. Not complaining! I have to pump and sometimes supplement but she's already up 3oz from her birth weight which I'm happy about. Definitely keep hydrated and snack. Don't forget to rest when

  • I have the opposite problem. I've never had much of an appetite and never really ate all that much. When I was pregnant I had to give myself reminders to eat. Now that I've had my son, I'm constantly hungry. I've sort of wondered if it's because now every

  • I also am having a low appetite, which I attribute to the anxiety of having a new baby and sleep deprivation. Hopefully it will get better soon for us. I find that having calorie rick beverages, like Odwalla juices are the best way to keep the calorie cou
  • Same here. I don't know how much weight I lost at this point because I don't own a scale, but my stomach was flat by 13 days post delivery (except the extra skin - YUCK).

  • I feel the same way even 3 weeks Out. I've lost more weight than I put on and I was only 120 prepreg. I assumed it was the c section. I'm not nursing but are you sure you aren't dehydrated? I know that if you aren't drinking enough water when you're nursi

  • Same here...I was super anxious and dealt with baby blues for about a week after I delivered.  I delivered on the 12th and have already lost 22 pounds as well.  It is getting a little better.  At the beginning, I didn't feel hungry and I wo
