Cloth Diapering

How long did you use sposies?

We decided we would start out the first little while with disposable 7th Gen diapers and ease into our homemade prefolds once we were through with merconium and getting past some of the first time parent jitters.

If you did this, how long did you use your sposies before switching over and how many sposies did you go through a day vs CDs at that phase?

Thanks!

  • We were in sposies till LO was 12 weeks bc we only bought her OS dipes and it was that long before she hit 10 lbs.
at newborn phase I think we used at least 12 sposies a day. At 12 weeks we switched to 8 to 10 CDs a day.

  • We started part time CD with a diaper trial at 3 weeks and slowly built up our stash from there.

We stuck with sposies at night for a while because DS needed to be using non-CD safe barrier cream for those longer stretches when he started S

  • We've been CDing since we got home from the hospital. DD would go through 18 Bummis preemie/newborn prefolds a day since she was such a heavy wetter that we'd end up using sposies while all the diapers were in the wash. Once we moved up in size to the Bum
  • I used disposables until DS was 3 weeks old, and went through about a dozen a day. His OS diapers didn't really fit him well at 3 weeks, but we used them anyway.

If/when we have another child we'll use cloth from the start. It was a great deal ea

  • We bought some sposies for the hospital for the reasons you mentioned, but I was too impatient and used some fitted kissas and lil joeys in the hospital. The meconium came out first try-no stain. Since then, the normal, yellow, BF poop has caused numer

  • We used sposies for DD's first 2 weeks. We used about 10-12 a day.

I liked having the disposables around when getting up to move any type of laundry would have been asking a lot. haha.... Best wishes!

  • I only used disposables in the hospital but the nurse said to change her before every feeding, so I think I would have used the same amount because that is how often I changed her cloth when we got home.
  • We ended up using sposies for the first 4 weeks.  We went through around 12-16 sposies a day.
  • Thank you everyone. This is super helpful. We probably have enough Sz NB and Sz 1 (assuming she isn't too big for the NBs) to last us about 2 weeks if we did them exclusively that long. I am hoping I don't have to leave the house that first week if I don'
