My son was born yesterday afternoon, about 12.5 hours ago, via repeat cesarean. At 39.5 weeks, he weighed in at a very healthy 9lbs 13oz, but was taken to NICU because of breathing difficulties. A recent x-ray revealed he has a pneumothorax. It's small and should repair itself, just takes time. He's not even being given continuous oxygen, except on occasion when his stats drop too low.
Because I'm recovering from the cesarean I haven't even been able to get out of bed and see him and because he was having issues in the OR I haven't been able to hold him either. I got only a few minutes to kiss his cheek before they took him. In a few hours, they'll help me get up and move around for the first time, and I'm hoping I'll be able to visit the NICU shortly after that. They said they can't guarantee I can hold him, because they're doing al they can to keep his stress levels low. He hasn't even been bathed yet.
