Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Upset about 9m check up.

My son has been running in the low low percentiles for weight and head since birth. At this check up he went from 11% weight to 3%. I have been concerned about his weight all along and suggested a new formula. Pediatrician initially said he didnt think it was necessary. Now this time, he said he was a little concerned and suggested switching him from enfamil gentlease to similac sensitive. He also did a full blood panel which came back with NO abnormalities and his development otherwise is on track.

My son seems to really like the new formula ( he normally only drinks 20-26 oz a day ) I am just a little upset at myself for not trying switching him earlier and upset that the pediatrician didn't want me to switch his formula earlier. I know he may just be small and nothing is wrong with him, but you never know how he would have grown if we would have tried some new formula.

I know I am overthinking this, but does anyone have a similar situation or advice? Am I wrong to be upset about this?

  • I don't think you're wrong to be upset, but I do think it would be wrong to blame yourself or to harp on it for too long.  The thing to remember is that he's on the right track now, developmentally he's fine, and he sounds like a happy baby.  We

  • I can relate.  I'm in a similar situation with my 9 1/2 month old DD.  She is breastfed and has been since day one.  For the first 3-4 months she was in 50th percentile for weight.  Then at 6 month appt dropped to 30th percentile fo

  • I know sometimes it's hard to go against what a Dr thinks or says, but sometimes you need to follow your gut.  DD was born w/ a crooked foot which her pedi insisted would grow out and she would have a normal foot.  I brought it up at every well

  • SO much emphasis is placed  on weight gain and percentiles these days. I'm not saying it's unecessary, but I do think it can really get parents so worked up over something that is there to be more of a general guideline. If your son is happy and heal

  • My pedi said that it is pretty normal for the weight percentile to drop around 9 months because they are burning more calories as they start to crawl and reach more milestones. I'm pretty sure DS dropped from 40% to 30%. Don't worry! You're probably doing

  • I don't know if the case is the same for you as it was for me but my LO went from 50 percentile to 25th from month 6 to 9, I was a little upset about it but my pediatrician let me know this is very normal at 9 month checkups since most babies tend to

  • I think it's totally normal for babies to drop percentiles between 6-9 and 9-12 months because they start getting mobile. I really wouldn't worry about it if he's eating & drink well.
