Back to work 5 weeks after baby??

I have been offered a position to be a principal for summer school 5 to 6 weeks after the baby comes, depending on when she arrives. The hours would be 8 to 1, M-TH, for three weeks. I am concerned about being away from the baby so soon but this is also an amazing opportunity. Since I am a first time mother I am concerned that I am being unrealistic. Good news is that my husband, who is a teacher, will be home everyday and my mother will also be able to help. Could anyone help me out with letting me know if you think this is something that I will be able to do? Thanks!

  • I went back full time at 6 weeks. I think those hours are totally do-able and a great opportunity for you.

  • I went back to work at 6 weeks as well.  It'll be hard for you, emotionally, but if this is a great opportunity go for it.  You may want to discuss with them what would happen if you had to have a CS since recovery takes more than 6 weeks or if

  • You can do it. I had a C/S and at 6 weeks PP I could drive and my doctor cleared me to exercise and have sex. I didn't reay feel like doing either, but I was physically OK for both! I only stayed home 2 more weeks after that and then went back to pretty l

  • I went back full-time at 6 weeks and it worked out for me. Don't get me wrong, it was sad to leave DD at daycare for the first few weeks, but I have a feeling that it would be traumatic whether it was at 6 weeks, 3 months, or 1 year.

  • If you are planning to BF, just make sure you will be able to pump at your job.  You won't be able to go 5hrs without pumping that early on.

  • I'm sure its do-able, but I'm not sure I'd start a new job @ 5 weeks PP unless it was an absolute once in a lifetime opportunity.  You will be barely physically recovered, your baby will just settling into a somewhat reliable routine and you will sti

  • Thank you so much ladies for your input. The program isn't technically new, I ran it last year as an intern so I am familiar with the way it is ran. I also will have an office so I will have a place to pump and am flexible during the day so that is nice.
  • Go for it! It sounds like a great opportunity that will possibly open more doors. I went back to work 4 weeks after. You have people that will be able to support you emotionally when you first walk out that door, and people you trust watching your child.

  • I'm a teacher, but last year, I was the admin on site during intersession classes - same hours as yours.  I think it's totally doable.  It was way easier than being a teacher - there was more paperwork and admin type things to do, so I could sit
  • I went back to work full time after 5 weeks. In all honesty I shouldn't have, I had a planned c-section, severe PIH, and severe pre-e which didn't go away for almost 2 weeks after I had DD. After a normal delivery I don't think it would be a problem at al
