Entertaining baby on commute

Currently the commute from our apartment to daycare is about 25 minutes each way. DD is 7 months old and she does ok. Sometimes she snoozes, most of the time there's a little fussing and sometimes she cries the whole way.

We will be moving in a month and chances are good that anywhere we move to is going to make the commute to and from daycare more like 45 minutes. WWYD to keep a baby happy in the car seat that whole time? What about when she's around a year old; different techniques?

  • We sang a lot. And clapped and pointed out things she might possibly be able to see out the back window.  And had a glass of wine when we got home because my child was generally inconsolable in the car until she was about 18ish months old.

  • It might not be too bad.  I usually gave the kids a toy to play with and they were pretty mellow during the ride.  I talk a lot about things we see.  Sometimes singing helps.  As they get older, it's a little easier because they can

  • The Fresh Beat Band CD helped a lot when he was a little older than your DD is right now. When they are RF and so little there's really not much you can do.

  • I agree with music too! 7months is the perfect age for getting into music. Be it popular, or children's music, the parents make it fun by singing and clapping along. Soon she will do it all on her own, and learn the words.
  • I would try the fun toy or music for now, but I would start looking for a new place to send her.  I am sure you would rather she be playing than hanging out in her carseat for 2 hours a day.  This isn't an issue for us because we leave so early
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • This might not be a popular opinion, and not appropriate for a baby as young as yours, but the portable DVD player keeps my boys (ages 2 and 4) occupied during our 45 minute commute.  I keep Barney (gag!), Bob the Builder, Caillou (gag!), and a varie

  • I used those cheezy fun lullabye CD's. There were so annoying at first...however...i did finally learn:
