Cloth Diapering

Wwyd sposies vs CDs

We're going to visit mil this weekend. I've got about 10 left over sposies and a pack of flip disposable inserts. It's 7 hours one way and I really don't think it would be very fun to transport unsprayed diapers 7 hours home.
Or should I just suck it up and take pockets

Re: Wwyd sposies vs CDs

  • If I am traveling somewhere that I know has clean toilets, I bring prefolds/covers and do the ole 'dunk -n- swish'

They pack up smaller too, so less stuff to lug around.

  • I don't really want to wash laundry where I don't know anything about her washing machine. You know? I also dont have enough prefolds to last both kids so id have to take pockets. I also kind of hate prefolds.
I've had to dunk and swish at my parents house and I can never get buddy's poop off the diapers just dunking and swishing. Tmi he has terrible diahrea all the time

  • I've brought unsprayed dipes home on a 5 hours car ride with no stink issues. I just put the poopy ones in a small wetbag then into the larger zippered wetbag with all of the others. I find that keeps the smell contained just fine.

  • It will be 3 days for washing too. I just would hate to screw up my diapers for a trip. I guess I could take all pockets and stick the dirty shells in a wet bag. Part of my hesitation is both boys still poop 23 times a day each. So 89 poopy diapers over the weekend.

  •  I would do disposables. Transporting toddler poo sounds not fun. Your trip will probably be complicated enough with two LOs, I would take it easy and just use the sposies.

  • It's the first time we've been to mil's since we were dating over 5 years ago. She always just comes down and visits, especially with the boys. But dh's grandma died last week. So were going up to spend time with the rest of the family

this. especially with poop issues with your guy.  Not worth the trouble, imo.

  • I would just do disposables, but I'm one of the few it seems that doesn't have a problem with them.

  • I would do disposables. I took my whole stash with me to visit my dad once, but I know he had a good washer and dryer and didn't mind. If I didn't know I had that option it would be sposie's all the way. Heck, if Dad ever has me out again I totally plan on ordering some decent environmentally safe sposies.

  • I think I'll take the sposies flip liners. I'll take our ON diapers and wet bags. Plus a few pockets.

  • What do you want to do?

  • It sounds like you'd prefer to do disposables. It also sounds like you've got some tough family stuff to deal with. If I were you, I'd just do disposables. CD is totally doable, but there's nothing wrong with doing disposables for a weekend if you prefer, IMO.
  • I want to use my CD'd, but at the same time not really sure if its worth the effort and extra work after a really long weekend

its really up to you.  When I went o my sisters (5 hours away) I just asked if I could use her washer.  She had no problem with it.

I would bring detergent if you plan on using any diapers.  That way you can wash a load if you need to.

  • We didn't wash our diapers every day so just having it in the car wouldn't bother us.
  • We gave up disposables entirely at 6 weeks. We are all cloth all the time, even on trips.

  • I've used cloth on all of our trips so far, all of which have been to visit family and friends who had no issues with me using their washing machines. I just brought detergent with me and did the dunk and swish for the poopie ones.

In a couple weeks we're going on a cruise (10 days) and I just don't know how well it's going to work to use cloth, so I'm compromising with Grovia disposable inserts and covers. I just did an overnight test run last night with the biosoaker, a PUL cover, and a wool soaker all under fleece PJ's.  DS woke up with dry sheets so I'm pretty happy with the quality of the inserts.

  • Have you heard of Elimination Communication (infant potty training)? Probably not the best timing to *start* right now, but know that most babies signal pretty strongly that they need to pee or poop during a car ride because it's instinctual to not want to soil where they are sitting/living for 7 hours. So, you could always try a potty offering instead of letting those dipes get soiled. Look into EC if this piques your interest. :)
