Trouble TTC

Acupuncture anyone?

I go regularly to a chiropractor for headaches. Since I started in November 2012, I have been taken off all meds for bad headaches. I no longer wake up and have headaches all day as I was having prior to seeing him. Today I decided to ask about acupuncture, he went over some of his other patients and gave me some stories and it gave me some good hope. He did a complementary session it was short as my first time ever doing this. I have two more sessions this week. They are $55 per session, has anyone else tried this and truly believed that it helped?

Married in September 2010, started TTC journey November 2012

Re: Acupuncture anyone?

  • I've heard mixed reviews, but even my RE says, "it definitely won't hurt, and there is evidence it may help."  If $ was not a consideration I would go regularly, and at $55 per session it sounds appealing.  I decided against it for now b/c you have to go on a set-schedule in order to be effective and it was going to cost me a minimum of $400 a month at $100 a pop.

I went for fertility, it didn't help me conceive but the Chinese herbs I took did get my mind off TTC, it felt like a drug honestly, I was floating around and didn't think about baby once - wish I had stayed like that but my insurance only covers up to $400 and I paid $75 OOP each session/weekly afterward for a few weeks and it was getting expensive. She told me I wasn't conceiving because I wasn't relaxed enough, hmmm.

  • I spontaneously ovulated for the first time in over a year with weekly acupuncture for a cycle. Big believer!
  • Thanks for sharing. I have two more sessions this week I wasn't sure if I was going to keep them or not but I think I will.

  • I went every week for a year for fertility. She also treated my knee pain and headaches. I have never been so relaxed in my life. Besides that my cycles did get slightly more regular. Didnt help me with pregnancy but i really enjoyed it and was a lot less stressed out. If it wasnt 80 a session here I would still go

  • I started going last week and will have my second appointment tomorrow. In addition to being poked, I'm taking a myriad of herbs/vitamins and have changed my diet slightly (less sugar).

Our office was pretty good about a negotiated price. I had a price in mind looking at our budget and they met that, though the herbs/vitamins are on top of that cost. Still worth it.

I have to admit I do feel more relaxed but it will be some time before there are any results. I've also taken a break from traditional medications so if it happens,

  • I have been doing acupuncture for 6 weeks now. I also took the herbs, changed my diet, and exercise more, as indicated by my practitioner. I do not notice any changes in my cycles or treatment success... maybe I need to do it for a longer period of time... anyway, my insurance coverage is over and it's too expensive to pay out of pocket, so I won't continue to go. I was hopefull that it would make a difference. Now I'm quite disappointed....the one thing it did was relax me, so great for stress... anyway, I'll continue the diet, exercise, and relaxation techniques only.
