Hi! We recently found out we are expecting #4. A little history. I suffered a loss at 21 weeks due to PMROM because of a shortened/weak/dialating cervix...diagnosed with incompetent cervix. I had 3 healthy full term (minus one by a couple days see below) pregnancies after this with a preventative cerclage each time. My cervix always measured nice and long and closed each time. Which made me believe that the first was a fluke and I really did not need them. (of course we went with "better to be safe than sorry"). However, I have had rough experiences with the removals. My 1st was not bad. With my 2nd, it was the worse pain in the world, worse than giving birth naturally to my 9 lbs 6 oz baby boy. My last baby the dr could not remove it in his office. He had to remove it surgically and a few min procedure turned into a 45+ min procedure that resulted in my water breaking at 36 weeks 4 days, delivering the next day by being induced since my body was not ready (induction is something I like to avoid). Baby was healthy, but I wish I was able to let my body control the situation. Oh and to add, I was supposed to be on modified bed rest each time. Which for the most part I did, but after having my 3rd, taking care of a toddler, there was not much bed rest going on. I was fairly "active" in the sense that I walked, drove, lifted my son, etc. Of course I was careful and tried to keep it to a minimum. But again cervix was strong, closed and long.
Now with this baby, I really feel I don't need this cerclage. I could care less about the cost and recovery. I feel I should try and go without it this time, continue my care under my high risk dr, measure cervix as I did each other time and worse case if need be do the cerclage if things look worrisome. I will discuss this with my OB and high risk dr of course.
Has anyone had a cerclage with one pregnancy and then followed with one or more pregnancies (full term) without one?
