Trouble TTC

Has Anyone Ever Used Clomid?

Hello ! I am new to this site so im not quite sure how this works ! but i have been TTC for 1 year now. I have irregular periods and my doctor put me on provera to start a period then take clomid day 5-9, use ovulation test and then go from there. I am currently on my second round of clomid the first one didnt work :( Anyone out there that got a BFP on there second round? It is week 1 after getting positive Ovulation tests & im starting to break out with zits on my face. Could this be a sign of early pregnancy?

Re: Has Anyone Ever Used Clomid?

  • I get most of my skin breakouts in the 2ww from the hormonal shifts. What kind of testing (hormone levels, HSG, SA) did you and your husband have before starting Clomid? And did your monitoring ultrasound show you responded to the dose of Clomid you are taking?

  • My doctor did not do any of that :/ I was just put on the meds and started doing the tests. One day after i finished the clomid i got a positive on the Ovulation Predictor so that shows i ovulated so i BD that whole week (Last week). Now this week today i randomly did another ovulation test and it was still positive ! I dont know what to think right now :(

According to my doctor, those ovulation tests can be less accurate when using Clomid.

ETA: You should be properly monitored by your doctor while on Clomid in order to confirm ovulation.

I, too, struggle with irregular periods. I've been on Provera twice.

    My doctor's instructions are...

If menses does not occur by day 35 of the cycle, do a home pregnancy test. Notify your physician with the result and you will be instructed in the next step.

If you never get periods on your own, you definitely need to start seeing a specialist. Reproductive Endocrinologists are fertility specialists. Generally, they will actually monitor you correctly on Clomid.  Please see one.

This.  I don't get periods either.  This is really not as uncommon as you might think.  It is serious though because it can cause serious problems.  Start testing since I'm guessing you might have been getting false positive OPKs and test until you hit 60 days without a period, then go see your doc for provera and ask for a referral to an RE.  Also, what testing have you had done?  Do they know why you don't have periods, like PCOS?  You need to deal with the why before you should move forward...

  • I was on Birth control a while back. Once i stopped that my periods never came back. I went to the doctor to figure out why and she automatically diagnosed me with PCOS. then she did blood test and said something was high ( i do not remember) and said that i have diabetes Type 2. I was put on Metformin to bring that down. That was a few Months Ago. Just last month i went to see another doctor because i felt that doctor was not helping and she did blood work and asked why am i taking diabetes medicine that my blood work looked great! My last cycle of clomid I waited 4 weeks and got all BFN then decided to start over. the thing that gets me is waiting to start my period. the provera take foreverrrrrr for me! Now its 1 week after getting positive Ovulation so now i guess ill just wait? keep testing? give it a few more weeks and if i get BFN again call my doctor?
  • The provera usually takes forever for it to work for me. Up to 3 weeks my first time on it I bled for 2 days and it was barley any blood! This cycle I doubled the Provera (20 mg) and got a good period! thats why im hoping this time it will work and thinking last time it didnt because i barley bled any?

I take metformin and do not have diabetes - I am not even prediabetic.  However, many people with PCOS are insulin-resistant and metformin helps with that and can help you ovulate.  All of this is why you need to see an RE who can help diagnose you and put you on the correct meds.  Can you tell us a little more about yourself too - like age, how long you've been trying, etc.?

    TICKER WARNING

How do you graduate high school in 10th grade? Any normal high school I've seen graduates out of the 12th grade, although some kids were skipped through a grade or two they still had to go through grade 12.

I hope you are like a teacher assistant or something, because if you can't research and advocate for your own health, I'd be concerned about you advocating for children.

Yes, you are very young still.  My advice is to work with your doc on getting your cycles regular (with PCOS you need to work on keeping your weight in check, eating healthy - think diabetic diet with little sugar, and possibly metformin).  Get married and enjoy your first years together because you can since you are so young.  I am not saying this to be mean, but when you are 19 there is really still a lot you do not know and this is just a fact.  I work with teens and college students and have had to consider research on brain development - the human brain doesn't stop developing until you are in your mid 20s. This is my advice, all I ask is that you consider it...

OP, while I agree with the others that you are very young and should enjoy being married for a while - it is your life and it's not my business to judge or anything. You do need to run very far away from an OB who gives out Clomid without proper testing and monitoring. I wont sugar coat it - it can cause SERIOUS harm to you and could have potentially killed me when I did it early in my TTC journey. You need to see a RE for proper testing and monitoring and maybe a better DX for you.If you take nothing else from this conversation - please remember our warnings about Clomid. I started TTC at 22 and had been married for a few years by then, now I've been with DH for 7 years and we know each other so well because we could enjoy our marriage together without a child for a long time. I think too many people rush into TTC and have no idea how to really be a married couple first.

As for the PP's - I was already a full time college student at 16 so it is entirely possible for OP to have graduated early and have a degree already. You should all remember that times have changed! My 13 year old nephew is already in AP classes so kids are WAAAAY more advanced than we were.
