Formula at 11 months?

Hi everyone,

I EP, and the past few months my supply had deminished from 40 ounces to 10 per day! I can pump 2 bottles a day, and give 3 frozen bags. it looks like I will run out of milk around 11 months. At this point- would you go to cows milk or to formula for a month?  I feel like she will outright reject formula. Pedi says it's okay to start cows milk around 11.5 months- but she doesn't know we may run out before that!

 If you'd give formula- which do you think would be best... closes to BM?

I would talk to the ped, and just do cow's milk.

I'd go to cow's milk.  Nothing magical happens on their 365th day of life it's just that the guideline has to draw some line in the sand, you know?  I wouldn't encourage a parent to switch to milk over bm/formula for no good reason but transitions are hard enough - just do one transition rather than try to get her used to two different things in one month.

I would go straight to cows milk.  I breastfed and did Similac but it was so expensive so we switched to the BJ's brand and our pedi said it was fine.

I'd check with your pedi about cows milk at 11.5 months.  I know some have no problem with it.  Mine does and I don't feel like fighting her.  I know I could get a second opinion though.  Just find out what your's thinks.

As far as the formula, we just started formula right before 10 months.  My supply has tanked with my pregnancy.  I opened the free can of Similac we got months ago and DS likes it.  I'm going to stick with that because we don't have long to go, but it is expensive.  I asked about brands on this board and it seems like BF babies may love a brand or hate all brands.  Some suggested the Target brand.  I think you'll just have to try different brands until you find something your baby likes.  Try to find free samples.

I should meantion she was 3 weeks early. I guess I talk to pedi again!

With my first LO, who was breastfed for 9 months, the only formula she wanted was Similac Alimentum.  (She had no sensitivity/allergy issues.  it is just the only one she took.)  It is also the only one my nephew, who was breastfed until 9 months took.
