C-sections

Binder/Belly Wrap .. bring your own or hospital?

With my first c-section I was never offered a binder or belly wrap at all in the hospital.  Once I got home I used a Belly Bandit which I had purchased before knowing I'd need a c-section.    Did you buy/bring your own or did your hospital provide one?   I'm trying to decide which to buy or if I should just chance it that my hospital will have them available this time around (I didn't even know to ask last time)

If you bought your own, what brand did you buy and how did you like it?  If the hospital provided one for you where you able to take it home?  was it washable?

  • I was wondering about this too. Also....have you heard of C Panty? I was wondering if those were worth it or the same thing as the Belly Bandit. Just in case you don't know what it is... They are panties that give support, help shrink your uterus, and have synthetic material at the site of your incision that promotes faster healing (at least this is what it claims lol). I don't know anyone who has used them or has even heard of them.

I haven't heard of c-panty but now I'm off to google!!  I don't want to waste money on things that don't work but at the same time anything that'll help I'm willing to try!   I had a pretty easy recovery last time even without a binder or anything "special" but this time around I'm trying to figure out my options :)   I plan to ask my OB at my next appointment what she recommends but that's a week and a half away and I am starting to be paranoid that I'll go into labor early and not be prepared .. anyway off to google c-panty!

They come with great reviews. The cheapest one I have found is here:  https://store.upspringbaby.com/c-panty-s/48.htm I think they are pretty new on the market. My doctor didn't know what it was so I plan to ask the nurses at the hospital their opinions on them (considering I can actually show them what it is I am talking about lol).

This. They didn't give me one at the hospital until I asked. It wasn't anything fancy, but it did help with my mobility related pain.

  • I brought my BFF Belly Bandit to the hospital and started wearing it on day 2. It was totally comfortable even over the incision. The nurses all commented that my Belly Bandit was way more sturdy looking than the binders they offer in the hospital. I have been wearing it 24/7 since (9 days now) and my stomach is shrinking fast and I mean FAST. I am amazed with the results.

this is the one I'm looking at buying, I bought the bamboo belly bandit the first time around and liked it but I didn't start wearing it until 2 weeks PP and this time I want to start wrapping asap.  I may ask my OB  AND call my hospital just to see what they say, couldn't hurt right?   Thanks for the responses everyone!

  • The hospital gave me one and it was great!  It wasn't as "cute" as the Belly Bandits you buy yourself--mine was plain white elastic.  I took it home and wore it constantly for weeks--made my belly feel better, and gave good back support as well.

I'm sure they'd give you one if you ask for it.

I definitely plan on using one this time around, too.

  • I asked the nurses this time and they said my Dr would have to write me an order for one. I have a Belly bandit so I never bothered.

  • Will a belly band like the ones used for non-maternity pants work?

My hospital did not offer or provide me one. I know my SIL got one at her hospital, but mine apparently doesn't do that- so not all hospitals do that. I didn't have one during recovery at all, but it sounds like it would have been nice.

I'm worried this might be my hospital as well.. I was never offered one at all and I've talked to several friends/family who had c-sections at the same hospital and none of them were offered either.  Now I'm wondering if they'll look at me like I'm insane if I bring my own :/

  • Ask the hospital before you go.  I was never offered one after my first two c/s.  One was provided to me after my third c/s.  It was really great to have one- felt like it sucked everything in!  I actually liked the hospital one better than the bamboo Belly Bandit I wore once I got home (after a week or so the hospital one was way too big).

Nope.  The one we're discussing is a heavy duty thing that supports your belly after the surgery.  That belly bandit thing you're talking about would've done nothing for me post-c/s.

yeah the belly bands are meant more as a fashion accessory to extend the life of non-materity clothes, but they don't really have any compression built it so I doubt it'd do anything in the way of support.. no more than just a tight fitting tank would.

  • Hmm. I've had 2 csections and was never offered one and never used one at home. I guess that's something I should look into.

  • The hospital provided me one with my first and I'm bringing it with me just in case they don't give me one this time.  They put it on during recovery.

  • I used the hospital one until about 3 days after I got home. Then I switched to the one I bought (from BRU) still use it when working out.

  • I wasn't offered one after my 1st c/s but my Dr mentioned he was going to have them give me one the 2nd time around. (During surgery was the 1st I'd heard of it.) They wrapped it around me when I was still in recovery & I did feel like it helped hold me in & reduce some pain. Can't remember how long I wore it after I got home...maybe a couple of weeks. I was able to run mine through the washing machine. It was white with velcro but it was pretty thick & heavy duty. I had to have help putting in on tight enough in the hospital & maybe even for the first few days to a week after I got home. I would definitely want to use it again. I'll have to ask my OB if I just bring the one I had last time. Not sure how that works.
