My left nipple is painful and burns a little when I am not bf or pumping. This morning while I was nursing Brady it was really painful. Is this what thrush is, or could it just be irritated. TIA
I would definitely go and get it checked out, especially since you feel the pain even when not nursing.
Also, look in DS's mouth and look for any white, which could be a sign he has thrush as well. My friend, though, gets thrush "regularly" and her son never does, so that's possible as well.
That's how it started for me, pain just at the nipple. Then thinking it was b/c I was somewhat new to bfing I let it go a little too long and when the "inside" of my boob was burning I went and got med's.
I'd put a call into your Dr. now if I were you, just to be safe.
I have been dealing with a really nasty thrush infection for a couple of months now. Basically, I haven't had more than a few days of pain-free breastfeeding for my baby's whole life so far. My advice is: call your doctor NOW. The sooner you get treated, the better. I just put up with the pain for weeks, thinking it was "just irritation" --my daughter eats really often--and by that time my ducts were infected and I had to be put on Diflucan. Well, after three weeks of that, my infection only receded for three days and now it's back. Dr. is putting me on anew kind of ointment and if that doesn't work, its back on the Diflucan for 2 more weeks. Sorry to rant, but it has been a pretty horrible experience for me, and has really sticking with breastfeeding a challenge. Good luck!
