Trouble TTC

Frustrated :/

Hello all - I am a 28 year old with PCOS.  My hubby and I have been trying for right at a year to conceive with no luck - for the first 8 months I didn't even have a period without the use of provera.  My doctor told me that my weight was a concern so I've lost 30 lbs in the last 4 months which did start natural periods for the first time ever!  But noooooooooo ovulation.  My dr. has said from the beginning we could try clomid just to let him know we were ready.  Well I went in a week ago and asked and he said no - that it can be dangerous even though he'd always said it was a good option.  So now I don't know what to do.  Do I just keep trying naturally even though both my digital and strip ovulation tests are always negative (and I've tested day 5 until I get my next period) or do I go see a new doctor and push the clomid??

I am so ready to be a mom and am so frustrated because I know that I'm the one with the issue and my body is the reason I don't have a baby.

 Advice please!

  • Welcome to the board and I am so sorry you are having such a hard time with your doctor. Is he/she an OB or an RE? I would highly recommend an RE in your situation, because they are known to do much more monitoring and have more expertise in infertility situations. I find it extremely shady that even after you took his advice and lost weight (which is phenomenal, great job!!!) he backtracked and said it's a no-go. I would choose another doctor, because this is not appropriate. I doubt that you will be able to ovulate on your own, especially since you are not getting a period. You definitely need more oversight at this point. Good luck to you!

  • Welcome to the board. I'm sorry you are feeling so frustrated. Is the doctor you've been seeing an OBGYN? If so you need to go see a RE. There is a huge difference. Read our newbie link at the top to learn about the basic testing the RE will start with.

First off, I am sorry you have to be here.  PPs gave some good advice, but I just want to push is a little more.  My OB/GYN told me I couldn't get pregnant because of my irregular cycles and put me on BC to regulate my very irregular cycles.  After talking with some people and the ladies on this board, I went to an RE without her referral.  While I haven't had luck, I finally feel as though my PCOS is being treated appropriately and my desire to have children is being taken seriously.  Please go and see an RE.  If you take Clomid, you need to be properly monitored.  On clomid I get false positive OPKs, and only knew this because I was monitored.  Also found out clomid doesn't work for me.  It is a seriously drug and you need to have all precautions taken, especially since you have PCOS and could develop a cyst.  Feel free to PM me if you have questions...

     Good Luck!

  • My doctor is an obgyn - the closest reputable RE is over an hour and a half from where I live which is the only reason I haven't made the switch yet.  But I am definitely going to look into that after the advice given here!

    Thanks!
