Trouble TTC

Help and advice yet again

It took me two days (i don't think i am still over my sadness) to gather myself and try to find out what my next step would be

After getting all test done my RE suggested that we move to IVF with DE due to high FSH.

Ladies I need your help and advice again, can you please look at my stats and shads some lights please. (Please do tell me if i need to post this on Infertility or TTC after 35 board)

I'm 41 yrs old, I did CCC test, My results as follow

Day 3 blood work: LH 4 .67, FSH 8.95, ESTRADIOL 46.2

Day  10 Blood Work result :  LH 14.3, FSH 14.6,

Day 11: had my HSG

Day 12: ultra sound 2 follicles measuring 13 and 15 ESTRADIOL 643

Day 14 Ultra sound  2 follicles measuring 16 and 17.5, ESTRADIOL 397 and PROGESTERONE 2.92 (therefore they advice that i have already ovulated and cant go ahead with IUI)

1) Do u think my FSH level is so bad that I have to use Donner egg?

2 )Do u think I should ask for AMH and ACH test?

3) Do I need to find a new RE? ( i think i have lost all the confidence in this RE)

4) Is High FSH means poor quality eggs or DOR?

5) i have been reading up on how to improve quality of eggs thru acupuncture, TCM, herb and diet, do you think its worth a shot in my case

I am not giving up my hope and continue to believe in god and I know he has a plan for me.

Thanking you all in advance

Re: Help and advice yet again

  • I hope another of our DOR gals speaks up because since this is not our DX I don't have advice for you.  That said, I believe DOR DX is gotten through FSH, AMH and antrical follicle count on cd3.  But I do agree you should get a second opinion before moving forward with donor eggs as it's something you'll have to come to terms with and you don't want to have "what if's" in the back of your head.

I would also suggest copying this onto IF and TTC 35+, not because you don't belong here - but so you have more opportunity for others with similar experience to respond.  Some people post on mulitple boards, but some stick to their "home board" so it's never a bad idea to XP onto other boards for a broader response pool.

And as for one last idea for improving egg quality.  I have heard there are studies that women on Co-Q10 have seen improvements, but I'd google around to see if you can find the information on that.

  • If your FSH was 9 on your CD3 bloods and 14 on your CD10 that's not super-high (from what I gather) - it's a little high, but not too bad.

My understanding of FSH is that it goes hand in hand with your AFC and AMH results.  What is your AFC on CD3?    I would ask for an AMH test - it will give you an idea of your ovarian reserve at least.

That said, I would sit your RE down for a serious talk and get them to explain to you exactly what they think each of those test results is indicating, and why they feel like donor eggs are your best shot.  I'd also ask them any questions/concerns you have about the last cycle and how they plan to prevent missing your ovulation in the future....   That way you can make informed decisions, sounds like your RE isn't giving you as much information as you need to feel confident in them.  If they don't give it to you, then it's time to find a new Dr.

As for improving egg quality.  I've read up on TCM, herb and diet considerations -- and have read varying reports.  CoQ10 seems to have the most scientific backing, as well as acupuncture to help circulation... but nothing groundbreaking.

I would take into account now that you're 41 so aggressive treatment is probably recommended if you want to use your own eggs.  It may take longer and be more expensive to get you pg, so that's a consideration.    Weighing out the factors is hard when you just want it to work...
